About

I am a ceramicist and oil painter from Humboldt County, California, and currently based in Portland Oregon. Recently graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Whitman College, my work explores my own identity using aspects of the human condition such as mortality, nostalgia, femininity, and anthropocentrism. My first consistent artistic practice was through figure drawing, which I practiced from when I was 12 to 18. This taught me anatomy and more importantly how to observe and replicate the world around me. The use of the human figure remains prominent in my sculptures and paintings as a vessel of empathy and relatability to the viewer, and a representation of the artist in the work.

My current work focuses on embodiment, specifically concerning illness and the vulnerability of the human body. I’ve been drawn to this area largely due to the death of my father last year following an extended battle with cancer. He was a marine biologist, and a childhood full of tidepooling with him on the beach has brought nature and marine themes to the forefront of my art. I began exploring this in my art this past spring when I was an artist in residence at Zentrum fur Keramik in Berlin. I grew up in rural Northern California, but I also have dual citizenship with Denmark and have spent significant periods of time in Europe to see my Danish family and observe the art scene as a result.
